《파리 보이지 않는 파리 Paris Unseen》 전은 수 세기에 걸쳐 시간과 기억이 축적된 도시 파리를 새로운 시선으로 바라보고자 합니다. 역사적 건축과 풍부한 문화유산, 예술적 전통을 지닌 파리는 오랫동안 세계인의 상상력 속에서 특별한 위치를 차지해 온 도시이며, 오늘날에도 새로운 사유와 창조적 가능성이 끊임없이 생성되는 곳입니다.

사진의 역사 또한 이러한 도시의 변화와 긴밀하게 연결되어 있습니다. 1826년 조제프 니세포르 니엡스가 빛을 이용해 이미지를 고정하는 데 성공하고, 1839년 루이 다게르가 다게레오타입을 발명하면서 사진은 도시의 풍경과 삶을 기록하는 중요한 시각적 언어로 자리 잡았습니다. 이후 약 2세기 동안 사진은 기술과 감각의 변화 속에서 끊임없이 그 경계를 넓혀 왔습니다.

사진, 영상, 설치와 사운드로 구성된 이번 전시는 카메라의 단순한 기록을 넘어, 서로 다른 시선과 전략을 통해 도시를 사유하는 장을 펼쳐 보입니다. 하나의 도시를 둘러싼 다양한 해석이 공존하는 이 자리에서 관람객 여러분께서 ‘보이지 않았던 파리’를 발견하는 뜻깊은 시간이 되기를 바랍니다.

알랭 사약 소개 :
알랭 사약은 프랑스 사진사를 체계화한 대표적 큐레이터이자 연구자다. 1972년 퐁피두센터 창립팀에 합류하고, 1981~2006년 사진부(Cabinet de la Photographie)를 설립·운영하며 20세기 사진 컬렉션을 구축했다. 만 레이, 로버트 라우센버그, 데이비드 호크니, 브라사이, 자크 앙리 라르티그, 윌리엄 클라인 등 현대미술과 사진사를 대표하는 작가들의 전시를 기획했다.

그의 주제전과 연구형 전시는 국제적으로 소개되었으며, 한국에서는 이번 전시가 다섯 번째다. 이전 전시로는 《동녘에 해가 솟는다 The Sun Rises in the East》(2000), 동강국제사진전 《가면을 쓴 사람들 Mask》(2009),《만 레이와 그의 친구들의 사진 Man Ray: Photography and His Heritage》(2010), 제10회 대구사진비엔날레(2025) 등이 있다.


Paris Unseen seeks to offer a new perspective on the city of Paris, a place where centuries of time and memory have accumulated. With its historic architecture, rich cultural heritage, and enduring artistic traditions, Paris has long held a special place in the imagination of people around the world. Even today, it remains a place where new ideas and creative possibilities continually emerge.

The history of photography is closely intertwined with the transformation of the modern city. In 1826, Joseph Nicéphore Niépce succeeded in fixing an image using light, and in 1839 Louis Daguerre’s invention of the daguerreotype established photography as a significant visual language for recording the life and landscapes of the city. Over the past two centuries, photography has continuously expanded its boundaries in response to changing technologies and sensibilities.

Featuring photography, video, installation, and sound, the exhibition moves beyond the camera’s role as a simple recording device and opens a space for contemplating the city through diverse perspectives and artistic approaches. In this setting, where multiple interpretations of a single city coexist, we hope visitors will discover a Paris that has remained unseen.

About Alain Sayag :
Alain Sayag is a leading curator and scholar who played a seminal role in systematizing the history of French photography. He joined the founding team of the Centre Pompidou in 1972 and went on to establish the Cabinet de la Photographie (1981–2006), through which he built one of the world’s most significant collections of 20th-century photography. Sayag has curated major exhibitions devoted to key figures in contemporary art and photography, including Man Ray, Robert Rauschenberg, David Hockney, Brassaï, Jacques Henri Lartigue, and William Klein. His thematic and research-driven exhibitions have been presented internationally, including in Korea. This exhibition marks his fifth presentation in the country, following notable projects such as The Sun Rises in the East (2000), Mask (2009), Man Ray: Photography and His Heritage (2010), and the 10th Daegu Photo Biennale (2025).
